Thompson - 970224-1
This 1921A Colt Thompson is one of 4 shipped to the Dallas Texas Police Department in March of 1927. Dallas PD had 5 Colt Thompson's in the history of the department. #4523, #4936, #4976, #5176, and # 5643. #4936 is in the Dallas Police Department museum. It is property marked #13. #4523 is in private hands. It is property marked #15. #4976 and #5643 are "missing". This weapon is correct externally and internally retaining about 85% to 88% of it’s original finish. The original Remington butt stock is property marked “DPD 14” and the rear grip marked “3”. It also has an early square actuator slot. Very uncommon for weapons with serial numbers over 2500.
It is to be noted that Ted Hinton and Smoot Schmidt were armed with Thompson Sub-Machine Guns borrowed from the Dallas Texas Police Department during the November 21, 1933 Sowers, Texas ambush on Bonnie and Clyde.
I believe this weapon has had quite a history with the Dallas Police Department and research continues to date. >p>
