Pre 1986 Dealer Only Samples - 960814-6
This is what I view as one of the rarest Thompson sub-machine guns in the collectors world today. A Savage produced 1928 (not A1 or AC) Thompson, sporting the same New York, N.Y. U.S.A. address and patent dates on the receiver, as the original Colt produced weapons. Probably exported out of the country for the war effort to an unknown military entity. It was one of the 1st 10,000 weapons to be manufactured by Savage Arms, in Utica, N.Y. after Auto Ordnance sold out the Colt produced weapons. Sometimes incorrectly referred to as a Savage "Commercial" weapon. There are 3 generations of this 1928 Savage weapon. This is generation one, the rarest of the three 1928 models. For the most part, the majority of these weapons were exported and never returned to the USA after WWII. Only a handful made it back into the country. All parts appear to be original Savage issue, including the barrel. The internals look to be original and are marked with the Savage “S” mark. Some are nickel steel. The wood on this weapon is very nice. It was imported back into the country by Interarms at some time and put back into the system as a "Dealer Sample" weapon.
Note that this is a Pre-1986 Dealer Sample classified weapon on the NFA Registry and is considered a "keeper" weapon. It may be retained in your possession when you surrender your FFL / SOT.
Class 2 and Class 3 Dealers Only On This Weapon! No exception.
