M16 - 130410-1/2A very rare Colt XM177 type weapon, with a Colt Firearms registered flash hider. 11.5" barrel, original vinyl covered metal collapsible stock, A-1 upper with tear drop forward assist and no bayonet lug. Sometime after the weapons had been shipped from the factory, BATFE retroactively decided that the flash hiders needed to be registered, because of the flash hider's efficiency. Many of these weapons were already in consumer hands and most owners simply had the flash hiders registered by a local class 2 license holder or destroyed them. In some rare cases, the owners returned the flash hiders to the Colt Firearms Division, to have them legally registered. This seems to be the case here. The suppressor carries its own serial number and shows Colt Firearms to be the manufacturer on the form 4. It is in excellent condition and will make a nice addition to any collection. All of my research shows this weapon to be an original model 640. This weapon has two tax stamps. One for the receiver and one for the flash hider |
